Privacy Policy for Eating Buddy on Android
Last updated: 5 October 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Eating Buddy collects when You use the Android app, why We collect it, where it is stored, and how You can delete it.
By using the app, You agree to the collection and use of information as described here.
TL;DR
- Your diary lives on Your phone. The app works without an account and without sending Your entries anywhere.
- We collect limited, non-identifying usage data and crash reports to improve the app.
- If You buy Premium, AI Photo Captions turns on. Your meals and meal photos are sent to Our server in the EU and the photos are captioned by Google Gemini. You can turn this off in Diary Setup.
- If You sign in with Google for Account Backup, We store Your email address and a copy of Your diary and photos on Our server in the EU so they can be restored on another Android phone.
- You can delete Your account and everything backed up to it from inside the app, or by asking Us at hello@eatingbuddy.app .
- If You link an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude, it can read the Diary data in Your account, and its vendor handles what it received under its own privacy policy. You can unlink it at any time.
- We never sell Your data and never use it for advertising.
Who We Are
Eating Buddy is operated by Sagital SRL (referred to as “We”, “Us” or “Our”).
For anything about this policy or Your data, write to hello@eatingbuddy.app .
Definitions
Application means the Eating Buddy app for Android.
Diary means everything You log in the Application: meals, drinks, check-ins, workouts, moods, meal photos, tags, reasons, the nickname You chose and Your settings.
Premium means a paid subscription or purchase that unlocks additional features.
Usage Data means information collected automatically about how the Application is used, such as which screens are opened or which challenges are started.
You means the person using the Application.
Data That Stays on Your Phone
By default the Diary is stored only on Your phone. Nothing in it is sent to Us or to anyone else unless You turn on one of the features described below.
You can delete entries in the Application, or remove everything by uninstalling the Application or clearing its data in Android settings.
AI Photo Captions (Premium)
AI Photo Captions writes a short description of each meal photo so You do not have to type one.
It turns on automatically when You buy Premium. You can turn it off at any time in Settings, Diary Setup, AI Photo Captions. Turning it off stops all further uploads from that moment.
While it is on, the Application sends Your Diary entries, meals, drinks, check-ins, workouts, moods and meal photos, to Our server, which runs on Supabase in the European Union. Each photo is sent to Google Gemini, Google’s AI service, to produce the caption. Gemini receives the photo only and is used under Google’s API terms, which do not allow Google to use the photo to train its models.
Unless You have also signed in for Account Backup, this data is linked only to a random device identifier. It carries no email address and no name, so We cannot tell which person it belongs to and may not be able to find and delete it on request.
This data is used only to produce captions and to improve the accuracy of the captions and insights in the Application. It is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not shared with anyone for marketing.
If You turn AI Photo Captions off, the data already uploaded under Your device identifier is deleted 24 months later. If You sign in for Account Backup, the data becomes part of Your account and follows the account rules below instead.
Account Backup (Premium)
Account Backup keeps a copy of Your Diary on Our server so it can be restored on any Android phone You sign in to.
What We receive when You sign in with Google. Google shares Your email address, Your Google account identifier and Your basic profile (name and profile picture). We keep what Google shares, but We use only the email address, to show You which account You are signed in to. Your Google name and picture are not used or displayed.
What is backed up. Your whole Diary: meals, drinks, check-ins, workouts, moods, meal photos, tags, reasons, Your nickname and Your settings. For each phone that is signed in We also keep its device identifier, time zone, country, language, platform and whether notifications are allowed, so that reminders and syncing work correctly.
Where it is stored. On Our server, which runs on Supabase in the European Union.
What it is used for. Only to restore and keep Your Diary in sync between Your Android phones, and to show You which account You are signed in to. It is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not shared with anyone for marketing.
How long it is kept. For as long as Your account exists. Signing out stops backups from that phone but leaves the copy in Your account.
Deleting Your account. In the Application, open Settings, Account and Backup, and tap Delete account. This removes Your photos and everything else backed up to the account from Our server, along with Your email address. Your Diary stays on Your phone. You can also ask Us to delete Your account by email at hello@eatingbuddy.app or through eatingbuddy.app/delete-account . Please write from the Google email address You signed in with so We can find the account.
Google Drive Backup
You can also back up Your Diary manually to Your own Google Drive. The backup file is written to a private app folder in Your Drive that only the Application can see. It never passes through Our server and We cannot read it. You can delete it from the Application or from Google Drive’s settings for connected apps.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Google Play. We use RevenueCat, a subscription service, to check whether You have Premium and to restore it on a new phone. RevenueCat receives Your purchase history and a random app identifier. If You sign in for Account Backup, Your account identifier is also linked to RevenueCat so that Premium follows Your account.
We never see Your payment details.
Connected AI Assistants
You can link an AI assistant made by someone else, such as ChatGPT or Claude, to Your Diary. Linking starts in the assistant: it shows a six-digit code, You type the code in the Application under Settings, AI assistants, and approve. Nothing is shared until You approve.
What the assistant can access. The Diary data stored on Our server in Your account: meals and the foods in them, descriptions of meal photos (not the photos themselves), drinks and water, check-ins, workouts, sleep, moods, challenges, and Your lists of tags and reasons. It can read this data and, when We make such features available, update it, for example to save a suggestion. It sees only Your own Diary and nothing else.
What We record. For each request an assistant makes We keep which tool it called, the query it ran, how long it took, whether it failed, and the assistant’s name and version. We do not receive or keep anything You said to the assistant. These records are kept for up to 12 months and are used only to keep the service working and to improve it.
What the assistant’s vendor receives. The parts of Your Diary the assistant asks for are sent to the vendor that runs it, for example OpenAI for ChatGPT or Anthropic for Claude. From then on the vendor handles that data under its own privacy policy, including what it keeps and how it uses it; We have no control over that.
Unlinking. Settings, AI assistants lists every linked assistant; unlinking stops all further access immediately. You can also disconnect from the assistant’s side. A link that is not used for 90 days expires by itself. Deleting Your account removes every link with it. Unlinking does not delete data the vendor already received.
Usage Data
We collect limited Usage Data to understand how the Application is used and to improve it. It is collected with PostHog, an analytics service, and stored on PostHog’s servers in the European Union.
Usage Data may include:
- Which screens are opened and which features are used
- Which challenges are started, completed or abandoned
- General device information, such as the operating system version and the app version
- A random identifier that tells installations apart
Usage Data does not include the contents of Your Diary, Your email address or Your name. It is not used for advertising, is not sold, and is not shared with anyone for marketing. It is kept for up to 1 year and then deleted.
Crash Reports
If the Application crashes or hits an unexpected error, a report is sent to Sentry, an error reporting service, and stored on Sentry’s servers in the European Union. A report contains technical details such as the error, the device model, the operating system version and the app version. It does not contain Your Diary entries or Your email address.
Your Rights
If You live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, You have the right to ask Us for a copy of the personal data We hold about You, to have it corrected or deleted, to receive it in a portable format, and to object to how We use it. Write to hello@eatingbuddy.app . You can also complain to the data protection authority in Your country.
Children’s Privacy
Eating Buddy is not directed at children under 13 and We do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If You believe a child has provided Us with personal information, contact Us and We will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The new version is posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date, and changes take effect when they are posted.
